Friday Night Lights was an amazing TV show. We got to sit back and enjoy everything good about Texas (football, southern accents, and football) without actually having to live in that state. And now that we have Homestate right here in Los Angeles, there is no reason to ever step foot in Texas again.
This small Los Feliz spot serves some of the best Tex-Mex we’ve encountered on the West Coast. People line up here for queso, migas, and most importantly, breakfast tacos. Homestate’s flour tortillas are excellent, and when filled with simple, high-quality ingredients (bacon, potato, cheese, egg, beans, and shredded brisket, if you’re feeling extra Texas), you have a truly ideal breakfast food that tastes just as good on your way into work as it does hungover at 2pm on a Saturday. Whether or not you’ve actually been to Texas, you’ll probably also want to order the queso. Get it ‘loaded,’ which will add on chili, guacamole, pico de gallo, and sour cream. It’s what Coach Taylor would do.
